There are a lot of things that you can say about the group that took over a federal building in Oregon, but calling Ammon Bundy and this group terrorists is simply not correct.  And having the gall to try and compare it to a #BlackLivesMatter rally is just silly, because if you really take the time to analyze it, a #BlackLivesMatter rally is far closer to a terrorist threat than this group of marauders.
Of course, we need to start with how we choose to define terrorism.  The technical definition is “the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.”  Now that is an awfully broad term, and if we apply that definition, you could round up at least half of the politicians in this country (this is not a partisan statement, that half will make up members of both parties, though the Tea Party would probably have the greatest representation), every union that has ever had a strike and tried to enforce a picket line, every pro-life member that has ever shown up at a Planned Parenthood Center, and certainly anyone that participated in the riots in Ferguson, Mo and every #BlackLivesMatter rally where they have set out to disrupt and intimidate other.
As a matter of fact, if you look at the #BlackLivesMatter rally that took place at the Mall of America and Minneapolis airport on Christmas Eve, you have a textbook example of intended terror.  One of the leaders of the rally, Kandace Montgomery was quoted as saying, “When you disrupt their flow of capital … they actually start paying attention.”  They intimidated shoppers, travelers, merchants and even Santa abandoned his sleigh in the mall prior to the start of the protests.
Now, lets compare that to the criminals that took over the Federal Building in Oregon and why action has not yet been taken.  They have thus far disrupted nothing except perhaps a news cycle.  They managed to hole themselves up in a way that makes keeping them contained simple for authorities, and thus far the only violence that has occurred is “promise” to defend themselves violently.  Which is why, since they pose no present threat to anyone else that  a well thought out and calculated plan to end the standoff is wiser move than to rush in.
Please don’t misunderstand me. Â They are criminals, not patriots. they are aggressive outlaws and not defending anyone’s “rights.” Â What they are doing is wrong, and when this standoff is concluded, they should be made to answer for their crimes and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Â But don’t call them terrorists, to push a politcal agenda unless you are willing to accept the fallout of unintended consequences and having other groups “labeled” as well.
