Busy little beaver I am today (eventually I am going to have to get some work done in the office… but it is currently lunch time so…).
We are looking to get a second dog, TheWife and LatteGirl have been harping on me for quite some time, but we weren’t able to agree on much. I finally won out after sending them over to go visit Jenn’s dog Roxy at One Foxy Hound. One look at that dog, and they came to my side of the fence, and now we are looking to adopt a new Basset Hound.
Somebody warned about this sometime back (if it was you please speak up), how tough it was to adopt a dog nowadays. It sounded odd to me, because we have adopted dogs before, but never had that big a problem with it.
Apparently times have changed. When I inquired at Tri-State Basset Hound rescue, I was greeted with a three page application to fill out. That followed with a 45 minute interview that I just completed, and now they will decide if they will let me adopt one of their dogs, “if they find one that is suitable to my household.” I won’t even go into the fact that the adoption will run $200. I understand they need to make money to keep these shelters and rescue places going, but at $200, people are going to instead opt to go to a breeder or Pet Store and buy “new” since the cost is not going to be much different.
You know, if they had as stringent controls on adopting or fostering children in this country as they do to adopt a homeless dog, children would be much better off.
