I have found I have a penchant for non-dairy milks. Cashew milk is a favorite, especially the Chocolate Cashew. So when I found Silk Almond Nog, I was thrilled. Only 45 calories per cup as opposed to what… 300 for regular egg nog. The idea of this sounded fantastic, besides the lower calorie count, it is eggs, dairy, saturated fat and cholesterol free. So, what could be the problem?
The problem is that it is terrible. It tastes sort of like a runny vanilla cake mix. I didn’t notice originally, but they suggest adding nutmeg (which apparently is the Christmas version of Pumkin Spice), so I did that. Then it tasted like runny Spice Cake mix with a hint of vanilla.
Lesson Learned: Sometimes you can’t mess with the original, the results just aren’t worth it. I’ll stick with regular egg nog and just drink it sparingly.
