More and more, people are relying on supplements. To lose weight, gain strength, to improve skin, fight aging and so on. And naturally where there is money to be made, companies of all types jump all over it and offer up products.
Fancy labels, wild promises, some legit, some not so much. So, how do you separate the real from the not so much. Well, step one is easy. Research, in the days of Google and Bing, finding the studies (or lack thereof) for any claim is easy. That means for instance, if you are looking for weight loss supplements, you can toss out any product that contains Acai, Garcinia Cambogia, Raspberry Ketones (among others).
You can also cross off any product that promises “targeted” results, such as “burn belly fat.” There is no product that can make weight loss occur on a specific part of the body, so any product promising to do so is based on a lie, and thus is not worth you trust or money.
Now, you found a product or ingredient that shows the promise (and hopefully the research to back it up) that you want to use, and the dosages that make the product actually useful. You aren’t done. When you start looking for a brand to buy, you need to next look at the ingredient list.
Here is the important part. If you see the term “Proprietary Blend”… put it back on the shelf and don’t waste your time. The clinically effective dosages of supplements are known, there is no legitimate reason for a proprietary blend. It is there strictly to dupe to buyer by using more of cheaper ingredients and less of more expensive ingredients. So, you take, what you think is legitimate, but get no results because you are not getting the clinically effective dosage of the key ingredients.
As an aside to that, beware of products that offer too many ingredients, as they will often mask ineffective dosages by piling on the number of ingredients included to make it look far more impressive to the average person.
The solution is simple. Either buy the individual ingredients separately, or look for a product that tells you EXACTLY how much of each of the active ingredients are included in their product. You will get better results, and you wallet will thank you for not wasting your time or money.
