Ok, it was stupid enough last year when the “controversy” started over the plain red cup that Starbucks chose to use last year for the Holiday Cup (and BTW, get ready, it is back again this year). But now people are losing their minds over a short run “green cup.” Ironically enough, the intended symbolism of the cup, is a “mosaic of more than a hundred people drawn in one continuous stroke,” which the company says represents community and unity in a time of political divisiveness. Instead, there are people that apparently have no desire for unity of any sort, and see this as “propaganda” and have reacted with extreme and ridiculous vitriol.
Clearly the point was missed, but even there, it has been missed on multiple levels. These are not the “Holiday Cups” but the Christmas Warriors were already geared up and ready to fight their imaginary “war on Christmas” so when they saw this, they sprung into action, mistakenly believing this was “Anti-Christmas Cup” Only, it is not. The holiday cups have yet to be released (but as noted above, when they come the warriors will once again spring into “war” mode).
Then there are the people that have no desire for unity, because apparently a message of shared humanity and connection is “liberal bias” that brings forth hatred, claims of “brainwashing” and demands of boycotts. It is amazing that a group of people, that so often espouse their “Christian Values” are so dead set against “love thy neighbor.” I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that for the most part these are the very same people that will rush to Chik-Fil-A and buy a sandwich to show support of their right to “free speech” in the way of promoting hate against the LGBT community. Free speech in their world only goes as far as those that agree with them.
Even if a message of peace and unity is so against your version of “Christianity” at the end of the day… It is just a cup with a design on it. Time to get off the cross, take the wood, build a bridge, and get over it.
