Clue (1985) is based on the boardgame of the same name (with several additional characters added). The basic premise as set out in the movie is that the guests, Prof. Plum (Christopher Lloyd), Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn), Mr. Green (Michael McKean), Col. Mustard (Martin Mull) and Ms. Scarlett (Lesley Ann Warren) are invited to a dinner party by Mr. Boddy, a man that is blackmailing all of them. Mr. Boddy is promptly murdered, and of course all of the guests have a motive to want to see him dead.
Now the race is on to find the real murderer, before the police arrive, and of course to stay alive since there is someone capable of murder within their midst.
This however is not a noir or regular murder mystery. It is a hysterical comedy with an excellent cast (as you may have noted above), it also stars Tim Curry as the butler Wadsworth, and has cameo appearances by Jane Wiedlin (from the Go-go’s) as a singing telegram girl, and Howard Hesseman (WKRP in Cinncinatti, Head of the Class) as the Police Chief.
